They had a number of options for dining, could book any tour we wanted, and provided free bus service to town. Kellie, Dave and Tom on a vacation in Australia in 2000. This was the first part of the “Eyes in the Dark” tour. We were taken out to the Bond Cattle Station just outside of Alice Springs. We were given a tour of the old homestead buildings. We see the original houses and upgrades over the years, some of the out buildings and the school room. School for the most part is done by correspondence up to a certain age followed by boarding school until high school graduation. What was once mostly done by radio now happens mostly via computer.

Kellie, Dave and Tom on a vacation in Australia in 2000. This was part of our last few days in Australia in Cairns. This a Butterfly Sanctuary in Kuranda. It houses a collection of free flying native butterfly in the large enclosure as well as a huge collection of mounted specimens. The colors are incredible. Some of the butterflys had huge wingspans, about a foot. The video of the free flyers isn’t that great but I did the best I could.

After a drive looking for wild kangaroo among the cattle, we stopped for the evening at a campsite where Matt, our guide and host, prepared a wonderful steak dinner. He also introduced us to an Aussie cookie called Tim Tams. The other people were an Israeli actress named Aviva Cohen (?sp) and her mother. She said she did Spanish soap operas filmed in Argentina. Kellie, Dave and Tom on a vacation in Australia in 2000. This was part of our last few days in Australia in Cairns. This is an attraction called Bird World in Kuranda. It houses a collection of free flying native birds in the large aviary. The colors on these birds are incredible.

Kellie, Dave and Tom on a vacation in Australia in 2000. Visiting the Wild World Zoo in Cairns. We got to pet and hand feed kangaroo and hold koalas. Also got to see wombats, emus, and other unique animals and birds. Didn’t video the crocs for some reason.
